Luke Combs has some regrets about this beautiful, crazy day.
The "Where the Wild Things Are" singer reflected on the day his 10-month-old son Beau, whom he shares with his wife Nicole Combs, was born and why he wasn't there to witness it.
"I'll never forget the craziest day, probably, in my life," Luke said on the June 20 episode of The Zane Lowe Show. "One of the best and one of the worst days in my life at the same time."
"It's August 16," he recalled. "I'm in Sydney, Australia, in a hotel room, and we're on tour in Australia. I probably woke up at around 8:00 a.m. Australia time, and I had a text from my wife, and it said, ‘I'm so sorry, I really tried to not have the baby while you're gone.'"
Holding back tears, he added, "God, dude, it sucked."
Nicole, who also shares 2-year-old Tex with the singer, gave birth August 15. While Luke couldn't be there in person, he was virtually present to see the birth.
"He wasn't born yet, but my wife texted me on the way to the hospital," the 34-year-old said. "He was two and a half weeks early, and I was supposed to be home and I wasn't."
Although it was a difficult day for the "Beautiful, Crazy" singer, he and Nicole had loved ones to support them. While he had his close friends to lean on down under, his wife's mom and sister were there for her.
"My wife had a really great support system with her for that experience," he noted, "which I'm very thankful for."
But even with the glitz and glamor of stardom, being the best father he can be will always be Luke's biggest priority.
"I want my sons to have as normal of a life as they deserve to have," he told Esquire in March 2023, "to ride bikes, to have privacy, to go fishing. I don't want them to be on jets all the time going all around the world—not that we wouldn't go on vacation together."
"I want them to have the things that I didn't have," he explained. "But I also want them to have the things that I did have, which was a really fun, normal feeling childhood."
