Machine Gun Kelly is reflecting on one year of sobriety.
The rapper opened up about his journey since quietly going to rehab for alcohol, marijuana and pill addiction, telling People ahead of the People's Choice Country Awards that he needed to examine the "generational curses" that fell to him.
"I was born on the 22nd. Twenty-two is a master number. What am I here to master? I had to ask myself that question," Kelly, born Colson Baker, told the outlet. "What were my generational curses and problems that were passed down on to me and to my father? Rest in peace."
Kelly, 34, celebrated one year of sobriety in August. Last month, he shared on the "Million Dollaz Worth of Game" podcast that it was his now 15-year-old daughter Casie who first inspired the move to get sober a few years ago. At one point, he says she told him: "Dad, you know I can tell when you're high?"
"It took me a while afterward because, obviously, drugs have a vice grip on you. That was step one for me," said the "Wild Boy" rapper said at the time.

He has also credited Megan Fox for being "extremely helpful" during his healing.
"Megan has for sure been extremely helpful in dealing with the kind of psychological withdrawals that come with getting off drugs," he said on Bunnie Xo's "Dumb Blonde" podcast in August.

To People, he said it's comforting to know "I can punish myself today so that I can forgive myself tomorrow."
"I have a daughter who I love with all of my heart and would die for," he added." And I have a beautiful family and a beautiful group of friends and a beautiful life to live for. And I'm not in a haze anymore to not realize that."
